Natural cotton in a soft cream carries this pillow's drawing - a menagerie of lions, deer, birds, rabbits and leaves worked in fine outline stitch across the whole face. The figures are drawn rather than filled: a line of blush, sky blue, sage or rust describes each one and the cotton shows through inside it. There is no single center; the eye moves. The face is a pale, even texture from across a room and becomes a picture only within arm's reach - where each animal is found one at a time. The thin lines sit flush with the weave, so the surface is smooth against the cheek. On a bed, whichever corner is folded under, a different set of animals shows.
