White marble, turned into two taper holders and then chiseled across the full height - rough-hewn bands cut to leave the stone broken and irregular between each layer. A carved opening at the top receives the taper. One holder stands taller than the other; both come from solid stone, with gray veining showing in the recesses. One holder is taller than the other, so the two flames sit at different levels - a matched pair would give one flat line of light. The chiseled bands break the light into fragments instead of reflecting it back. Wax that runs down catches in the recesses and lifts off cold.
