very odd fabric

The fabric is very odd..stiff and thick, not like a velveteen but more like a heavy flocked stiff Christmas ribbon perhaps. The color is a nice deep olive, fit is nice, waist good, straight in the legs and long enough for a 5'9" woman. It's just the fabric that's off. I would be afraid to wash these pants for fear the "flocking" would somehow come off of the dark backing fabric?
