The SpeedGoat was once a great reliable shoe that did not fall apart. It was simply a tough shoe. Then Hoka releases the SpeeedGoat 6 and demolished the reputation of a high quality shoe. This is the my experience: Purchased the SpeedGoat 6, received it and inspected it. Immediately I found the exterior rubber sole was not properly glued to the shoe and rejected the shoe, sending it back to Hoka. I purchased another pair of SpeedGoat 6 shoes. It arrives and after visual inspection, the shoe looked fine. After the first run, the exterior sole begins to delaminate. I send back and get my money back. I buy another pair. Shoe arrives and all is good. Two months of light use, as I tie the shoe, the shoe string cut through the eyelet rending the shoe unusable. Hoka did warranty it and I got another pair. This time after 7 months of light use, the shoe string cut through the eyelet again. I have Two pairs of SpeedGoat 4's I still use and no issues. No delamination and the eyelets do not show the show strings cutting into the eyelet. I did submit a warranty claim to Hoka and was denied due to wear and tear. I see that Hoka is having issues with the SpeedGoat and many other of their shoes regarding quality control. I suppose it is easy to hang one's hat, stating "Normal wear and tear" but I have never had a shoe eyelet fail on me until the SpeedGoat 6. I never had a show delaminate so easy until the SpeedGoat 6. Hoka, there is a reason your market share is shrinking. If you continue to make poor quality products and then not stand behind the poor quality product when it fails, you will alienate your customers; which by the way make your paycheck possible. Never forget, your customers have a choice. Never forget that when the poorest reviews match your good reviews, that should be a wake up call that perhaps the issues many of your customers are having is not a "normal wear and tear" issue. Maybe its a Hoka issue.

Avoid this shoe!
Less than 6 months of neighborhood walking the upper right shoe is ripping. Poor quality. Years of using other Hoka shoes were fine. Bad design.

I have worn speed goats for years. This version is terrible.
I have been wearing these shoes for more than 6 years, and I run a lot of miles. Bought this version, and started training for an ultra expecting similar results with prior models. Almost immediately, I started experiencing very bad foot pain. After about 6 miles on every run, these shoes caused blisters on my inner arch. I tried swapping out the insoles, changing my stride. Nothing worked. You might be a speed goats loyalist like me, but I suggest trying these out before you commit to running longer distances in them. Hoka may have lost my business when it comes to trail shoes.

Speed Goat 6
The Speed Goat 6 is poorly made. After 3 months the sole is tearing off. I had the speed goat 5 and it was great. Trying to return them under warranty is a pain. You would think that Hoka would let the stores that sell their product do the returns but apparently they dont. I would definitely stay away from this shoe.

Just Any Other Shoe, Disappointing for a Hoka
I walk trails and thought I'd try the Speedgoat 6. Big mistake, worst designed tongue I've ever seen on a shoe, there's no center to pull it up when it gets pushed down into the shoe. I usually put on my Hoka's and they fit like an old friend, these don't, the toe box is narrower on my EE's than I've ever gotten on a Hoka. I've probably bought about 20 pairs in the last six years, if this was the first pair I bought it would have been the last. Jared Smith should definitely not be getting a bonus this year.

2 hours of hiking and my feet were killing me
I've had at least 10 pairs if SG 4 & 5. Never a problem backpacking 10 miles (6 ir 7 hours). I hiked for 2 hours and my feet were hurting. I thought it must be a fluke so I wore them a few more times and every time my feet were hurting. Customer service said they changed the midsole and told me to send them back since it was still within the 60 day return. I didn't really want to search for another shoe for backpacking but that is where I am at.

Tackling the trails and backpacking adventures require a comfortable shoe and we're disappointed this style didn't provide that. Don't give up yet as we have a vast lineup of other styles that are trail ready to keep you comfortable for miles, and our Shoe Quiz bit.ly/HOKAShoeFinder can help narrow down your search by answering a few questions.
BIG reduction in ankle padding!!!
The biggest change from the 5 to the 6 is the significant reduction of interior cushion around the heel joint, which leads to pain in the ankle joint due to the collar hitting that joint with every step. The padding in all the former speedgoats was thick enough to push the collar of the shoe away from the ankle joint, but not these. I have been deperately stockpiling the 5's but was just recently forced to start buying the 6's and dealing with the lain until I find another option.

We are so happy to hear our Speedgoat 5 has brought you so much comfort on the trail, and hoped the 6 would continue that legacy. However, if you’re finding yourself craving a touch more cushioning, the Mafate X could be just what you need. Its high-cushioning bed delivers a soft, forgiving landing with every step, while the carbon fiber plate adds structure, stability, and a more responsive feel to your stride.
