No support / No upgrades

It would be great if at least you could update the firmware or something. It just don't work with iOS 11 or 12. So you have a big Bluetooth speaker only. Sad.

"Portable" is a broad word; otherwise a good start!

I am a beginning DJ and originally selected this system for portability and because the deck didn't look very crowded or difficult to learn. As the M1X-DJ provided, I wanted a system that I could pick up and plug-and-play anywhere. Anywhere, that is, until I tried it without being plugged into AC power. Unbeknownst to me (it was pretty hard finding reviews and info about this product beyond the manual to begin with), the system doesn't supply power to the Lightning cable on battery power. Without this connection, my phone and Djay 2 cannot connect and the DJ board side is useless. Basically, it becomes a simple Bluetooth speaker with AUX I/O. This is a unique subtlety unique to my situation, where my "anywhere" was going to be remote Boy Scout camping locations. Most users probably won't encounter this, but I feel as if this information needs to be published somewhere. As for the rest of the system, it is very good and functional for learning the basics in beatmatching, transitioning, and making a beginning mix. The speaker is powerful enough to fill a sizeable room - I never had to exceed 2/3 of the maximum volume to date. Every now and then, I will have some anomalies where the board will stop responding to Djay 2 and I'll lose control, or my tempo will change randomly (the latter case is usually fixed by pausing and resuming, and the former by restarting the system and app). While some of these issues are probably the software's fault this proves critical for a system reliant on Djay 2. All in all, Armin Van Buuren partnered with Phillips to construct an entry-level system for people to be able to plug and learn. This system accomplishes that goal and provides a mostly glitch-free experience; my only beef is that the portability factor was the most advertised component, yet the DJ decks are reliant on AC power alone.

Hi there, First of all let us thank you for taking the time to fill in this review with us. Your words means a lot for Philips and are taken in consideration for our customers satisfaction at all times. It is wonderful to hear you find your DS8900 M1X-DJ sound system absolutely great when new, but what a shame indeed that it slowly stopped reading your iPad and iPhone. This is of course not the expectations Philips set on products. Have you tried simply deleting the Algoriddm’s djay 2 iPad app and downloading it again just to make sure you have the latest version? Software version on your Apple device goes hand-in-hand with the sound system so please make sure you reset the connected device as well as making sure the iOS version is not an incompatible version for use with the DJ system. Does the system work fine with Bluetooth or any other feature? We would love to troubleshoot and fully support you further in this. Therefore, let me welcome you to reach out to our support here as well: http://bit.ly/2vFcz9m Hope we can turn your experience of this product around. We are here to support you :) Many regards,

Great Product

This is a good product. Sound quality is excellent. Price is not bad also. Would have been a super great product if this item is not limited to iPads.

Does not work well

I bought it and after barely using for 1 year it stopped working. Should have read the reviews on other blogs. And after calling Philips and spoke to Clare. They pretty much said there's nothing they can do. So now it's just an expensive speaker. Google the reviews first before you end up unhappy
