Is this a French thing?

It is unlike any fitted sheet I have ever seen—multiple seams attaching sides/top/bottom segments instead of one continuous fabric sheet.

Stiff and scratchy

I love the color of these sheets but tragically they are so stiff and uncomfortable. They feel cheap and so rough.

scratchy as sandpaper

These are the most uncomfortable sheets I have ever purchased. We have washed them multilple times hoping they would soften up but they are still as hard as sandpaper.
