Unannounced Change to Tin Can Alley Line

These are now made of porcelain rather than bone china. These are not identical to the tin can alley plates I bought a decade ago and a year ago. They are slightly thicker, heavier, and clunkier.

Not the same.

No longer made in America. Also, looks like porcelain no longer Bone china.

Response from Lenox Team

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. There have been manufacturing changes over the years and we have also changed the country of manufacture, which is the reason for the difference in your ware. All of our China is now produced to be more sturdy and durable for today's lifestyle. Consumers have indicated that they prefer dinnerware that can be used on a daily basis and can be put in the dishwasher. Lenox employs a vast number of American workers at a variety of sites throughout the United States.

In order to provide these jobs, in a competitive environment, Lenox has made the decision to place the crafting of some of our products overseas. The artwork is designed and usually sculpted by our own artists, and only then crafted overseas under our direction and supervision to meet exacting Lenox standards for beauty and quality, which has evolved over the last one hundred years.

Thus, whether you purchase a product crafted in our Lenox factories here in the United States or by a master craftsmen abroad, you can be sure it is an original Lenox design produced from the finest materials and worthy of the Lenox trademark which it bears. lenoxcorp

A decade of use

We received a set of these dishes for our wedding, almost 12 years ago. Over the years some dishes have broken due to us dropping them, or whatever, but overall, they’ve been great! They don’t get silverware scratch marks, and are sturdy. We’ve been really happy with them and will likely purchase more to add to our collection. My only complaint is that when we registered for it, our dessert plates were purchased with both the 4 rings, and 7 rings. Not sure if it was our registry or the buyer, but be careful you don’t get a mismatched set. It took us weeks to even realize they were different.

Maybe more delicate than you'd want

I've had the dishes for just a couple of months and the other day I unintentionally destroyed two of the cups in the process of making hot tea. I poured hot water into a cup, heard a crack and then water was everywhere. I hoped it was a one-off bad mug, and then proceeded to accidentally crack another mug. I see now that some reviews say they've cracked plates in the microwave. It's disappointing that these basic dishes can't withstand normal every day use such as microwaves or tea. I am regretting registering for them now. Lovely dishes, but maybe they aren't the best investment to replace everyday dishes.

Not Your Grandmother's Dishes

I LOVE these dishes. I registered for the 7-degree place settings. They are STUNNING in person. Very light but sturdy. They have a classic, yet modern look to them. You can dress them up with colored accent plates or napkins to match any holiday. This is by far the best white bone china on the market today. I have run them through the dishwasher many times and they still look great. I chose bone china as it is light, but strong. These are great every day plates but would look just as nice with Christmas dinner. The dinner plate is very large and I often find myself using the salad plate to keep my portions in check. Not an issue for me though! I can't wait to complete my set!

Gorgeous

We received this place setting as a wedding shower gift. We absolutely love the entire collection! They are very well made and do not have a scratch on them. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone in search of new dishes.

Enjoying my new dishes

I wanted to replace my every day dishes with something that was pretty, but could stand up to everyday use and, most importantly, did not get knife marks like my Pfaltzgraff dishes did. I've been using the Tin can Alley 7 degree for two months and I love them. They are nice for everyday as well as special occasions. I used them for Christmas dinner and received many compliments on them. I like the simple but elegant pattern, the color and the finish. The one problem I had was that one place setting arrived broken, I took it to Macy's for an exchange and the second set also arrived with a hairline crack in the cup. I had to return the complete place setting to get the cup replaced. I just recently used a cup for the first time and noticed it also had a hairline crack which I did not notice when I originally received the cup. So I would just say, check your dishes over very carefully when they arrive!

Love, love love my new china

My husband and I were eating dinner one evening and he mentioned that our old stoneware was looking old (It is 30 year old Noritake 'Scorcerer and I have yet to lose a piece) . Well let me tell you, I did not waste a minute running out to Macy's to 'start' looking for new china. When I saw this pattern, I fell in love with it immediately, very simple yet elegant. We use it every day and special occasions. I am mixing the square and 7 degree patterns and I love, love, love it. I have received so many compliments on the china as well!
