- too mainy pro's to list( to keep make this a short read) - Received with airmiles ( was initially hesitant with promotional gifts being low quality ) -Use 300 days/year, Serial# of 2046 = manf. 46 week of 2000 and still working great ! - yes maintenance required on anything with moving parts ( we strip grinder parts down and vaccum and brush every 3 months aprox.) - de-scale with vinager and distilled water when prompted on screen( no need to add more minerals with tap water) Con's...by design - for all coffee makers using moulded parts ( not just Breville machines) - our recent awarness of plastics harmfull for us, would like to see less plastics coming in contact hot liquids by use... - not easy to pour all coffee out of insulated pot, until you find technique of, rocking back and forth when pouring last amount out upside down from pot. pro's...by design - great use of proper materials and design for this hard working machine. - gaskets used to get coffee grinds from grind blades to basket, with deflector to spread out grinds evenly - meandering escape path built in for soaking coffee in basket incase it flows to slow, preventing overfliowing basket - removable catch tray for easy cleaning - operator messages on screen when machine will not start , to help with making sure are parts are in right position and locked in - even notices if user incorrectly sellects too much grind for given amount of water, no wastefull $ brews - auditory and visual water overfill indicators, thinking of deaf users also ! As a former mech. engineer, It seems German Rockstar Engineer(s) were obsessed with function on build !

Great machine until it decides not to work anymore
So we've been using these for like 8 to 10 years now. They do grind and brew well. Coffee is great etc. But they only last two years. I'm on my 4th maybe 5 machine. It's the disk that spins to let the ground coffee flow into filter. It'll end up lined up incorrect and throw a 001 code. And once they start that it's time is done. Wish they lasted a little longer for the price.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear of your experience. That error message can usually be resolved with a deep cleaning of the grinder. Please expect an email shortly. We'll be happy to look into how we might help.
I second the review "surprised about other reviews.."
I want to add my voice in full support of the review below, because my experience with the Grind Control has been almost identical—if not better. I’ve worked this machine every single day for well over a year, sometimes multiple times a day, and it has performed without a single error. Not one. It produces consistently excellent, well-balanced coffee no matter what beans I throw at it—light roasts, oily dark roasts, blends, single-origins… it handles all of them flawlessly. Is the carafe pour design a little odd? Sure—you do have to tilt it more than feels natural. But honestly, it’s such a minor quirk that it hardly qualifies as a complaint. The machine’s output more than makes up for the occasional awkward pour. What surprises me—though maybe it shouldn’t—is how many consumers seem shocked that a machine this sophisticated requires basic maintenance. We’re talking about a device that grinds fresh beans and brews a full pot with the push of a button. Anything with that level of convenience and precision is naturally going to need periodic care. Expecting it to run forever without cleaning, descaling, or the occasional deep reset is unrealistic. Anything worth having is worth taking care of. Like the reviewer below, I treat the upkeep as part of the ownership experience—rinse after each brew, descale when prompted, occasionally open it up to keep the chute and grinder clean. It’s not “fun,” but the tradeoff is simple: effort in = performance out. And the performance here is absolutely worth it. Bottom line: this machine delivers quality, consistency, and reliability that justify the maintenance it requires. If and when mine ever wears out, I’d buy another. But until then, it continues to run like a champ—quietly proving that proper upkeep goes a very long way.

Turning 11
I got this in 2015 January. Just made a fresh pot this morning. I clean the hopper and grinder when I vacuum. Still working with original parts. No user errors here.

Surprised about other reviews
We've had our Grind Control for about 6 years now and are using it regularly at least twice a day, and at times four or even five times to accommodate a household of different schedules. Originally, after we learned how the machine operates, I bought two spare baskets, that way we always have a dry one available to ensure smooth operation. The periodical maintenance, when descaling reminder pops up, includes taking the machine apart and cleaning it throughout. Removing the beans, disassembling the grinder, removing the chute gate/disc, washing all removable parts and cleaning the rest thoroughly. Ideal? Of course not, a pain in the butt, but what would you expect? The work has to be done one way or another while convenience always balances out with the complexity of maintenance. It takes a single button press to take you to a pot of coffee from freshly ground beans in a matter of minutes. We always clean the machine after each run and the cleaning is easy. The maintenance too - not easy, but it keeps the machine clean and fresh. We have never head a coffee maker last this long because the simpler designs that do not require any maintenance eventually just get to nasty to look at them. Improvements. This is our first coffee maker with an insulated carafe. In order to get extra hot coffee the way we like it, we have a bit of a circus going with pre-warming the pot before brewing coffee. The bottom plate does warm up from the internal heat element adding a bit of heat into the pot after the coffee is ready, but in that sense, I wish there was another solution to this issue. We love to brew a pot right after the maintenance, when the grinds are all 100% fresh and the pot if super hot from the recent flush run. For maintenance reasons, I wish the not holding the chute disc was based on a standard fastener. A hex screw would work. Also some years ago I lost the spring washer that goes underneath. Everything works without it, but it feels like more grime collects under the disc without it. How do I get a replacement? Yes, I would buy another one, but not without checking for an improved version first. Again, I am surprised at the amount of pain expressed in the reviews here. I supposed this machine requires more maintenance than people are willing to perform and they don't understand the tradeoff I mentioned above.

Do Not Buy This Coffee Maker
I received The Grind Control as a gift in June and it has been nothing but problems. The hopper has been broken twice as I was trying to clean the grinder, it randomly makes 12 cups of hot water without grinding beans, though there are few grinds in the basket. Breville helpled the first time the hopper broke but has not been of further assistance even. Though the machine is still under warranty. They asked me to open a case through my review on the William Sonoma website and I still have not received an email or phone call regarding the open case. I am so mad and disappointed that I will never buy a Breville product again.
