Lingerie FAQ

  • Most women are wearing the wrong bra size. So how do you find a bra that fits? First, pick one that works with your shape. If your breasts are far apart, choose a demi bra with space in between each cup; if they are close together, a full-coverage style will help support and separate. Once you have a style you like, consider how everything feels. The band should lay flat against your rib cage for a snug—not tight—fit. A good test is to raise your arms while trying on a bra: The band should stay in place. Also keep in mind that it’s natural for the band to stretch over time, so you should be able to comfortably wear a new one on the loosest hook. Finally, check the straps: If you’re able to comfortably slide two fingers under them, they’re in the right place.

  • Our bodies are constantly changing, so it’s recommended that you get refitted for bras every six to 12 months. If you go through a major change to your body, such as pregnancy or significant weight loss or gain, it’s a good idea to check and make sure your bra size is still correct. And if you have a big event coming up, like a wedding, it doesn’t hurt to double-check your size so you can make sure you have the perfect fit.

  • Look for styles specifically designed to minimize panty lines. Seamless underwear and no-show underwear are made to lie smoothly against the skin, reducing visible lines under your clothing. A thong is another good option to ensure a sleek look.

  • Most people wear a bra and a pair of panties every day, which means they need to be replaced more often than other items in your closet. Bras should be replaced once the band stretches out or the cups lose their shape—usually after about six months to a year of wear. Panties should also be replaced once they show signs of wear and tear, such as loose elastic or ripped fabric.

  • Delicates like lace and silk lingerie can easily be damaged in the washing machine, so handwashing is key to preserving your bras and panties. Use lingerie wash and gently swish your pieces in warm soapy water, being careful not to twist or wring out, as that can cause them to lose their shape, and always lay bras and panties flat to dry. Once dry, store them in a drawer, making sure your bras are cup side up. Special items like chemises, bodysuits, and bustiers should be hung in your closet.
