The Lingerie Guide
As the foundation of every outfit, the right fit and style of your underpinnings are key. Are you looking for a sleek but structured underwire bra? The most comfortable bralette? How about the best bikinis, briefs, or boyshorts? Our helpful guide breaks down the basics of your base layers, including how to find your ideal styles, care tips to keep your lingerie looking its best, and top brands to keep on your radar.
Bras
When it comes to feeling confident and supported, a well-fitted bra is essential. Delicate or daring, silky or structured, there are so many bra styles to choose from. Here are a few we think every top drawer needs.
Bra Styles
Perfect under a party dress or bandeau top, our selection of strapless bras provides an invisible layer of lift, support, and comfort.
Shorter cups and wide-set straps make balconette bras a great option for a plunging neckline. They also offer lift and structure, creating a subtle hint of cleavage.
Made with cups designed to hold you in, a full-coverage bra provides significant lift and support for any size bust. We particularly like brands like Wacoal and Natori for beautiful full-coverage options.
For the smoothest silhouette—even under super-thin fabrics—choose a T-shirt bra. Mid-coverage cups offer a bit of shape while maintaining a natural feel, making these a great option for everyday wear.
Extremely versatile, convertible and racerback bras help you achieve a no-show look under almost any top. Available in a variety of designs, convertible and racerback styles feature adjustable—and often removeable—straps, allowing you to fit them perfectly depending on your needs.
Providing great support and lift, a push-up bra accentuates (and enhances) your shape. Paired with matching panties, they’re a sexy, confidence-boosting style.
Offering slightly more shape and support than a bralette without the addition of underwire, a wireless bra is the perfect middle ground for those looking for a bit of structure and a seamless fit.
With their soft, stretchy design and lack of clasps or underwire, bralettes are a great relaxed style for anyone prioritizing comfort. Bonus: They look great peeking out from a tank or button-down.

Panties
Whether sheer, lace, satin, silk, or cotton, the ideal pair of panties should combine comfort, support, and style. Worn as part of a lingerie set or mixed and matched with your favorite bra, these are the essential styles to stock up on.
Panty Styles
Classic for a reason, briefs are a wardrobe essential. Offering both front and back coverage, they are the perfect pair of panties for everyday wear. We’re particularly partial to styles from Hanro and Hanky Panky.
For minimal coverage (and no panty lines), choose a thong or a G-string. The latter features a small triangle of fabric in the front and strings or straps everywhere else, while a thong has a slightly thicker waistband and a bit more coverage on both the front and back.
Falling between a brief and a thong, a bikini cut offers a little less coverage on the sides and typically has a low rise. A sexy addition to your top drawer, they’re especially eye-catching when worn as part of a lingerie set.
For full rear coverage, opt for a comfortable pair of boyshorts or hipster panties. Hipsters fit lower on the waist, so if you want a higher rise, choose boyshorts.
Shapewear
A great foundational piece whether you are looking to smooth, sculpt, or streamline, our shapewear collection features beloved brands like SPANX® and Commando. Excellent for events and days when you want to feel a little more pulled in and supported, the best shapewear is as sleek as it is comfortable.
Offering full sculpted coverage, a shapewear bodysuit smooths the stomach area, slims the waist, and supports the bust. They’re a good option under form-fitting tees and sweaters.
With options that hit at either the mid-thigh or the knee, shapewear shorts smooth hips and thighs and work best under fitted skirts and pants.
An everyday pick, our collection of shapewear panties feature both low- and high-waisted styles that lift your rear while smoothing your hips and waist.
Shapewear that provides a smooth base under dresses, skirts, and tops, slips and camisoles come in many different lengths and styles. For those looking to streamline and tighten, opt for a slip or camisole with four-way stretch or a bit of compression.

Lingerie FAQ
-
Most women are wearing the wrong bra size. So how do you find a bra that fits? First, pick one that works with your shape. If your breasts are far apart, choose a demi bra with space in between each cup; if they are close together, a full-coverage style will help support and separate. Once you have a style you like, consider how everything feels. The band should lay flat against your rib cage for a snug—not tight—fit. A good test is to raise your arms while trying on a bra: The band should stay in place. Also keep in mind that it’s natural for the band to stretch over time, so you should be able to comfortably wear a new one on the loosest hook. Finally, check the straps: If you’re able to comfortably slide two fingers under them, they’re in the right place.
-
Our bodies are constantly changing, so it’s recommended that you get refitted for bras every six to 12 months. If you go through a major change to your body, such as pregnancy or significant weight loss or gain, it’s a good idea to check and make sure your bra size is still correct. And if you have a big event coming up, like a wedding, it doesn’t hurt to double-check your size so you can make sure you have the perfect fit.
-
Look for styles specifically designed to minimize panty lines. Seamless underwear and no-show underwear are made to lie smoothly against the skin, reducing visible lines under your clothing. A thong is another good option to ensure a sleek look.
-
Most people wear a bra and a pair of panties every day, which means they need to be replaced more often than other items in your closet. Bras should be replaced once the band stretches out or the cups lose their shape—usually after about six months to a year of wear. Panties should also be replaced once they show signs of wear and tear, such as loose elastic or ripped fabric.
-
Delicates like lace and silk lingerie can easily be damaged in the washing machine, so handwashing is key to preserving your bras and panties. Use lingerie wash and gently swish your pieces in warm soapy water, being careful not to twist or wring out, as that can cause them to lose their shape, and always lay bras and panties flat to dry. Once dry, store them in a drawer, making sure your bras are cup side up. Special items like chemises, bodysuits, and bustiers should be hung in your closet.
