I bought this about a year ago and was genuinely excited to use it after seeing glowing reviews everywhere. Even the strangely enthusiastic influencer celebrating the fact that it vacuumed backwards had me convinced. (For the record, most vacuums manage that without needing a standing ovation.) Unfortunately, after a year of use, I can confidently say this is the only vacuum I’ve owned that somehow struggles to vacuum… while vacuuming. I have a cat and a dog, so naturally there’s some hair around the house. Nothing extreme, yet this machine treats pet hair like a personal insult. The “all surface brushroll” proudly claims you never need to change heads between hard floors and carpet, which is technically true — because instead, it simply transfers all the debris it picked up on the hard floor directly onto the carpet for you. Very thoughtful. Then I get to go over the same patch another 4–8 times while it contemplates whether cleaning is really its calling. Battery life started strong but has now declined dramatically. These days I get around 20 minutes, maybe 30 if the stars align and Mercury is in retrograde. The Smart Detect feature is also fascinating. It regularly ignores actual dirt, then suddenly goes into maximum power mode over absolutely nothing. If you’ve ever wanted a vacuum with the instincts of a startled possum, this is the one. The 90-degree feature sounds brilliant in theory, but in practice it mostly pushes debris around like it’s rearranging furniture. Mid-clean, I often have to stop and unclog the tube connecting the head to the motor. And what causes the clog? A Lego brick? A sock? No — usually ordinary dust and dirt. Truly delicate machinery. The self-cleaning/charging station is probably the best part of the package, which says a lot. Even then, docking it often requires the precision of parking a boat in a storm. And the debris chamber never fully empties, while the little flap that’s supposed to stay closed often remains open instead. So next time you use it, it showers dirt onto itself, your feet, and the freshly cleaned floor like confetti at a wedding. Overall, for the price, I regret not sticking with Dyson. This vacuum has a lot of features, many of which appear to be decorative.

I’ve been using the Shark Cordless Detect Pro with Auto Empty System in a busy household with three young kids and a French bulldog, so it definitely gets put through its paces every day. There are a few things I like about it. The bend feature is useful and makes it much easier to get under furniture without having to strain as long as furniture is high enough for the vacuum head to fit. The battery life is solid for everyday use, I can get through the usual daily clean without feeling too rushed. The upholstery attachment is handy. That said, there are some frustrations. The suction isn’t as strong as I expected, and I’ve found it struggles a bit with more stubborn areas. It also tends to overheat and cut out when using the smaller attachments, which is really annoying. I would have loved a manual boost button instead of relying on the automatic mode, as it doesn’t always ramp up when I need it e.g: window sills, the car, or edges along walls. Another downside is that it clogs quite easily, and I find myself having to stop and clear it more often than I’d like. Overall, it handles the daily mess reasonably well considering the chaos of kids and a dog. I’m happy with it for general use and would buy another Shark vacuum in the future, just maybe not this exact model

I bought this vacuum after my 20 odd years old Dyson refused to work. I had decided I wanted a Shark because it picks up dirt when going forward or backward. I am so glad I bought it! It does what it says, and is so much better than the Dyson was because you don't have to hold a button on to power it (saving numb fingers!) and it sucks up better than the Dyson did. I love the higher powered sound it makes when doing carpet! The stand it comes with makes it easy to store away neatly too. A good investment.

I’m so glad it’s a self emptying and standing vacuum! First time buying a Shark, I’m impressed! The other brand that I had used for years doesn’t even compare.

I bought this because we got another dog, was sick of getting the ‘big’ cac out… This is perfect, use it daily and makes quick work of dog hair and mess. Only had a few weeks and seriously impressed. Why didn’t I get 1 sooner. Makes life, and husband, happuer

Doesn’t do long pet hair
I’ve had this vax for a year or so now. It gets pet hair clogged and I have to break it down and clear it out at least 10 times a clean. It’s getting very frustrating g. I have 2 dogs with moulting. I sweep first and it still clogs in the stick portion
