Gorgeous but runs very small

Having grown up in Palm Beach, I just had to have this shirt. When it arrived, the fabric is so soft. The linen is a wonderful quality. And the hue of the blue is gorgeous. I love this shirt! My issue is, I am on the cusp of a L or XL depending on the cut/maker. So, I order an XL that ended up being about 8 inches too far away from closing. That’s a lot! Later, in a brick and mortar Bloomie’s, I was lamenting to a salesperson about the size issue when she insisted I try 1 size up. It fit a little loosely… why would there be such a difference between their XL and XXL?
