Disappointing Sizing – Runs Extremely Large

I was really excited to finally try the Eileen West Ballet Sleeveless Nightgown after hearing great things about the brand's soft cotton and elegant, feminine designs. I ordered my usual size based on the general size chart provided on Bloomingdale's site, and since shipping was free (and returns presumably easy), it seemed low-risk. Unfortunately, when it arrived and I tried it on, I was literally swimming in it. The fabric is beautiful—lightweight 100% cotton, with lovely details like the pintucks, lace trim, and floral accents—but the fit is way off. It felt like I had ordered three sizes too big. The shoulders drooped, the bust and body had excessive fabric pooling everywhere, and it just didn't drape right at all. From what I've since learned (and wish I'd known beforehand), Eileen West sizing consistently runs large. If you're relying on a generic size chart without that warning front and center, it's easy to miss. It's a shame because the quality seems high, the material feels luxurious and breathable for sleeping, and the ballet length (around 50") is perfect for coverage without being too long. But for me, it was unwearable as-is. My advice: Unless you're already familiar with Eileen West and know how their sizing works for your body, skip it or definitely size down (maybe even two sizes). Retailers like Bloomingdale's should do better by requiring brands to provide detailed, brand-specific measurements (bust, waist, hip, etc.) instead of a one-size-fits-all chart. That would save a lot of disappointment. Overall rating: 2/5 stars – beautiful design and fabric, but the sizing issues make it frustrating and not worth the hassle for most people
