  • About The Fragrance

    Spritzers aboard the famous Salt Spray Rose. Sinatra's summer wind, dunegrass in the distance, rosehip, the white lighthouse.

    "There is no place I'd rather be in the summer than by the ocean in New England. Marblehead, Maine, Phillips Beach in Swampscott, Nantucket, to name a few.

    It's hot but the sea breeze brings in cool salted air by the late afternoon. The cloudless sky looks east over the Atlantic. Seagulls hang high over cutters, Sloops and Scoonahs (real spelling Schooner). The borders of the beachhead are covered in bushes of single petaled rosa rugosa. The musk rose. So fresh and purple fruity in the summer sun. By late summer the rose hips are bright tomato red. They are sour and filled with seeds. They hang heavy over the shiny deep green leaves. Honeysuckle, black raspberry, and other vines intertwine amongst the dune grass.

    There is so much music associated with this time of year. Summer jams. Soul music. The sweet syrup of Sam Cooke, the gruff scrawl of Otis. Doo-wop. And the dinky organ of Sinatra's "Summer Wind." I went to day camp on an island. Every morning we boarded a ferryboat with 2 floors (The Hannah Glover). We sang songs the whole way out. On the way home, they would blast "The Summer Wind" and everyone would belt out the words. "My fickle friend!" was the height.

    This scent isn't just a rose. It has the ocean, delicate petals, the green stem, the waxy leaves, and the fresh idyllic powder of summertime. It is an everyday perfume."

fun, but brief

Fresh, light lemon, sea air and the softest kiss of a new rose - the opening is very enticing. A coastal scent that for once does not smell like every other 'sport' or marine flanker out with their calone overdoses. This becomes more rosey and even a touch soapy, but never loses that sea-air freshness and the rose is never heady or overpowering. After about an hour, the rose has died down, leaving woody notes with still that tinge of salty air after, and that was the end of the excitement. After another hour or so, that too disappeared. While the first hour was fun while it lasted, the brevity of this rules out purchase, at niche fragrance prices I expect far better performance. Apart from I Don't Know What (which for me was more 'je ne sais pourquoi'), I'm finding the DS Durga scents in their Greatest Hits vol I sample set to be more interesting than the likes of Byredo etc, but I do wonder if they are all this short-lived.

Lovely notes but wears off quick

The notes on this product are a unique combination and remind one of the ocean, flowers and all good things good about life. However the scent wears off fairly easily so needs reapplication which one would hope would not be the case with a product at this price point.

Very disappointing

I was very disappointed to discover this was an oil roll on perfume instead of a spray. I like to spray my clothes and hair rather than my skin, which you can’t do with a roll on. I can barely smell the fragrance - I can catch a little bit of rose and citrus but then it fades to nothing. I don’t know if a spray version would be stronger but I’m not going to risk a repurchase.

Okay

It is so aquatic and has the quality of luscious citrus and rose without actually smelling like either.Bright, fresh rose opening that quickly wore off. It doesn't last but there are whiffs and hints of something fresh and clean and slightly rose-y. I like to spray this in my hair. A good bedtime, post-shower sprayer.

Love

I really rate this perfume for DS and Durga - mainly for the fact that it stays on all day no matter what I’m doing and is still smelling fresh and rosy by the evening, even with one or two applications. The scent is lovely, recognisable high quality rose smell. I bought it as a roller ball which is pretty pricy but I do deem it worth the money.

Lovely, but I love Rose scents

I love anything Rose scented and this one doesn't disappoint, it's a difficult scent to describe as it's unique, I think, obviously the first note is the Rose but it has a lemon sherbet hint to it too and then after a while definitely the aqua hint kicks in, would be a lovely summer scent.

Does what the name says

This fragrance is divine and it's exactly what it suggests from the name. The smell of a salty rose, a bush growing by the sea so you get floral but also marine tones and a hint of salt which just lifts the whole fragrance. Its not cloying at all, great sillage and good longevity.

Smells like a mermaid in the sun

I can't describe this perfume, I really really wasn't expecting something so nice. I tried it on by accident. I initially didn't like it when I first sprayed it, I felt there was something to verdant about the initial smell, I think the lemon oil. But it does soon disappear leaving you with captivating blend that transports you to sunlit shores and windswept beaches. It evolves into a heart of rose accord, linden, and dune grass, capturing the essence of coastal romance. Anchored by muscone, salt water, and white moss, the fragrance leaves a lingering trail of oceanic allure, invoking the magic of mermaids and summer's warm heat. Definitely will purchase this. Only downside is that I feel you would need to keep spraying. I hope this stays a secret. Ps I wouldn't recommend this to a friend as I like be the only one who wears a perfume I like!
