fake leather?

I returned this tote mostly because it did not smell like real leather. It smelled like a fake leather product that had been chemically treated, which made me doubt if this product was real leather after all. I cannot justify paying such a premium for a product that may or may not be premium. I wanted so badly to like this tote because of all the cute accessories Cuyana has to customize your bag, but I wasn't able shake off the doubt that this product had been chemically treated in some way. No thanks.
