    Bal d'Afrique Absolu reimagines the iconic scent with a more gourmand intensity, heightening the contrast between vibrant lightness and addictive depth, paying tribute to founder Ben Gorham's personal memories and the vibrant artistic influence of African culture. This reinterpretation elevates the gourmand notes of Bal d'Afrique to an addictive level, all surrounding a heart of sweet praline. Notes of bergamot, lemon and blackcurrant offer a bold vibrance before melting into praline, sweet musks and violet. A woody blend of cedar and vetiver add depth and drama to the base, with warm black amber extending the gourmand push of the praline right to the very end.

    The Absolu de Parfum is held in a redesigned bottle, an homage to craftsmanship. Embodying the deep intensity and transformation, the textured cap, inspired by Yakisugi, the Japanese art of charring wood, opens to reveal the atomizer spray, complementing the bottle's elemental design and the clean curves of the glass that shows the intense color of the fragrance within.

Blind delight

I purchased MG Absolu with one smell at the Grove last year. I recently experienced Bal D’Afrique at the Intercontinental in Chicago as their toiletries choice and fell in love. I decided to go with the Absolu based on the MG Abs difference. Such a good choice! It is bolder than the original, however that’s to be expected with an Absolu. A spray directly on the skin on the neck, radial pulse, and sternum did it. I sprayed it about an hour prior to being in a medical setting and could not even smell it (that’s a good thing, btw). Others got just a whisper of it in my presence and the compliments ensued. As with the MG and MG A, the Vetiver lotion was a beautiful complement. I also tried the MG lotion and the BDA Absolut and it was interesting but not awful! If you enjoy a subtly rich scent, grab this one. Bloomies also packaged this up beautifully and sent it at lighting speed! They never disappoint. The spray from 0500 is still emulating beautifully at 1600! Treat your soul.

DIVINE smell

I got Bal d'Afrique hand cream as a gift for my bday and LOVED the smell so had to get myself the perfume. It's hard to describe but smells sophisticated and elegant, and also lasts a long time so I only spray it once, max twice a day if I am going out in the evening. I always compliments and people asking what the fragrance is, so happy I got it.
