Lifesaver (once you figure out how to use it right)

Going from the fully manual version to the fully automatic took some learning. Now we can make consistently high quality lattes and capuccinos with no mess and no worries. Can't imagine going back to the manual... Pro tips: * Physically whack the portafilter into place. Do NOT use the soft button as that often won't get the beans flowing through the chute. If the auto-tamper starts making a high pitched whining noise, you need to whack the bean side to get it flowing (or gently nudge the beans in if you don't like the idea of whacking an expensive machine). If the tamping is bad, there's no manual way to fix it, just pop it back in, whack/nudge, and settle for a slightly over-packed filter. * Rinse the multi-head after each use by running the head for 1-2 secs after the coffee is done. Wipe dry. Oddly, the tutorial shows you how to do unnecessary things like warm the cup, but not necessary things like cleaning up old coffee residue which gunks up the heads. * Put the steamer wand down immediately after use so it reliably purges each time. Clean with a cloth AFTER the purge is done. If you try to clean before the purge, the purge process might kick in and get interrupted unintentionally. There is no way to manually trigger a purge. You can try steaming again, but that's dangerous and doesn't work very well. The Settings really should offer a manual purge option, but they don't. * Be careful when whacking the coffee into the organic bin. The plastic on the portafilter is a lot lower quality than with the older manual version. The new one already chipped. Now I'm careful to only whack on the metal part. Our older one which I've been whacking for 3+ years is perfectly fine.

Have to work through some kinks ..

I didn't like this machine at first. It took a couple months to work through the wavy tamping issues. I just received an update, and all my tamps are now perfect. I'm not sure if it was the recent update, or if it just took this long to calibrate, but my issue was resolved with a lot of patience, and unfortunately a lot of wasted beans playing with it. Now it's magically working great, and my coffee is amazing. I can't wait for my next cup! If you know a lot about espresso machines, and have the patience to play with the settings, this machine appears to eventually get it right! I will say, the patience was worth it as it's the best espresso I've had!

Maybe it missed the mark

I am having the machine for about a week now and... I have mixed feelings. It makes a great cup of coffee, but the minuses are way too many, and for that price point - they shouldn't be. Some of them are: - Can't find a way to auto steam milk, without doing anything else. - Dosing 18-22 grams? I tried everything but I can't get less than 21 grams in that basket. If you lower the tamping fan too much, then the auto-tamping is messed up or it grinds a ton. There isn't enough treads to lower that fan more. And if you try to do it, the issues mentioned above are becoming a reality. I will try with an 18 gram basked, but for the money, it had to be one included. Or just don't advertise 18 gram doses. - No time schedule - I mean this is so simple, and cheaper machines of Breville's line up have it, why this one - which has the most processing power - doesn't? I would like to be able to turn on the machine 20-30 minutes before I make my first shot of espresso. This way when I get to it, all is nice and warm. Also why I can't program how long I want the machine to stay on? I prefer this 10 times over the leds placed on the machine to light up the working area. - The preset volumes of the shots are wild. Double shot = 60 ml. Way too much. even if you grind 20 grams - this is 1/3 ratio, if you want something else - good luck. You need a scale and to go to manual mode or try Single+, but this one will give you about 35 ml. Haven't tried to brew by time, but something tells me this will be timed only on the extraction, I don't think it will be timed on the grinding, which is another minus. If you have an option to grind by time, it might be easier to achieve an 18 grams or less, once you know you need - let's say 15 seconds of grinding. - Grinding scale... there is soo much space in between the griding setting. You can turn the dial few times to get between two numbers and it shows that you moved one time, when in reality you probably moved 4 times, however this is not being shown on the screen. I wish it was much more precise I understand the machine is made to be simple. But it's way too simple with no manual way to do anything about it through the software of the machine. I don't understand why so many options are left out. Hard to justify the price. Hopefully those over the air updates can actually fix some of the short comings

Bean to cup, the perfect machine!

The Breville Oracle Jet Espresso Maker….where to begin? I was so excited to have the opportunity to review this amazing piece of machinery as I take my daily coffee very seriously. The idea that one machine could replace all others that typically consume the real estate on my counter AND do make a great latte and espresso, well that just seems absurd! But the day arrived where I received my big box and excitedly opened it to unveil this seemingly magical machine. When I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised to see that it included all the accessories I had to previously purchase for my other espresso machine, so if you are a first time buyer, this is perfect for you as you don’t have to go on the hunt yourself. The machine itself is not much larger than my usual espresso machine that I will not name here to be fair. Setup was easy, fast and intuitive. I went onto YouTube and watched a video that explained everything about the setup of the machine and how to use it…could have looked at the QR code in the manual that came with the machine but I’d already read a few reviews that scared me into thinking the setup would be complex. Well let me put your mind at ease, it really wasn’t that difficult at all. Now to discuss the amazing features for this beauty. I adored the fact that you have a water reservoir that can be accessed from the back, but can easily be refilled by lifting a flap on the front top of the machine so no awkward moving of the machine needed on a regular basis. The built in burr grinder is nice and quiet compared to my top of the line stand alone grinder and the fact that it grinds and then deposits directly into the portafilter basket and tampers it for you, well that alone saves so much time for my caffeine deprived brain and simplifies the process to get a delicious cup of steaming aromatic coffee. The machine allows you to adjust for a single, double or triple pour with the push of a button. And the steam wand! Well this I believe is the only feature I’ve yet to master like the Breville gentleman on YouTube. I’ve used oat milk, my preferred choice, and 2% and the dairy definitely foams better but I cannot get either to foam like my local barista. However, I do love that I don’t have to hold the pitcher to find that perfect cyclone and adjust a knob while guessing the temperature and listening to a high pitched whine. I’m sure my foam issue is just user related so I plan to keep trying because the benefits outweigh the cost hands down. And can we talk about the fact that you aren’t limited to just coffee or espresso?! There is a tea option for just having instant hot water and an option for hot chocolate which is perfect for those little ones just dying to be included in the usage of such grown up machine. I wish I had more time to test all the drink options before this review, but I’m so loyal to my lattes that I didn’t get as far as I wanted. Perhaps I’ve inspired someone out there to take up the mantle and run! I do want to point out that I received this incredible Breville Oracle Jet Espresso Machine from Breville and Influenster in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion and I am giving it you. I did not expect to be wowed, but I have been and reluctantly feel like all my counter hoarding beauties may be finding themselves packed up as this gorgeous machine does everything they do plus more and quieter. So no more waking up my kids in the morning in order to have my soul satisfying latte. Now thanks to the Breville Oracle Jet Espresso Machine I can have my latte in peace before my kids wake up and drive my day to the brink of insanity.
