First experience with 4 qt cast iron braiser

Beef stew was my first recipe in my new braiser. I made one-half of a recipe which called for 2 lbs of beef, with reduced amounts of vegetables. The braiser was about one-half full and resulted in five cups of stew. The pan heated rapidly on a ceramic stovetop. I did have a little trouble regulating temperature down to simmer from medium high heat, but I think I just need more practice. The beef turned out very tender, and the veggies cooked to perfection. I do think the domed stainless steel lid is a little lightweight, but it performed well in keeping moisture in. In two hours cooking time, I never needed to add water. I think this pan is a good choice when you don’t need the size of larger cookpots.

Good design.

I like the thickness and depth. Great for braised short ribs. Two big handles make it easy to move, even when full. Lid fits well and keeps the condensation in, if you want.

Great Stuff

Oh wow this is such a great cast iron braiser, the weight of this skillet is heavy duty and it holds heat very well. I can clean this skillet easy because nothing sticks to it

Inferior Cast Iron

Looks great but not so great

I bought two of these cast iron lidded braisers with trivets. I gave one as a gift and finally used the one that I kept for myself, months later. I have a lot of enameled cast iron, both Le Creuset and Staub. This is nowhere near as good as those products. It doesn't perform as well and food gets unnecessarily stuck to the surface. I say that because that isn't my experience with either Le Creuset or Staub, which I use daily. Also, the lid is very flimsy. When I cook long-braised things there is a need for a good, tight-fitting lid. This one is not good or tight-fitting. So, while I loved the idea of a covered braiser, on a trivet, I wish that I'd only bought one in order to find out how good or bad it was. I wouldn't buy this.

Extremely Versatile

Ok I love this pan! It does everything! The design allows for simple frying or even a stew to be made in the same pot, which I love as it cuts down on dishes. I am so excited about this product and recommend it highly, it’s my new favorite kitchen item.

A MEAT LOVERS DREAM

A MUST HAVE FOR FRYING STEAKS, BURGERS, SAUSAGE. CREATES A GREAT CRUST AND NON-STICK PUTS IT OVER THE TOP. BETTER THAN A FRY PAN WAY LESS SPLATTER ON THE STOVE.

Good heat distribution and easy clean up!

This broiser is great for its multi functions! Its non stick was great for frying eggs and was such an easy clean up after it cools. I also tried reheating spaghetti in it and the heat distribution was great because it’s flat on the bottom so the food heated nicely all at the same time. I’d never used this brand and would definitely buy again!
